AAITF Bangkok 2015 to bring something new to Asian Auto Aftermarket industry : Peter Massey

AAITF Bangkok 2015, an international auto aftermarket expo, has created much expectation among the stake holders across the global automotive industry. In an e-mail interview, Peter Massey, Project Director, Tarsus Group Ltd, shares his views about AAITF Bangkok with the event’s official media partner Automotive India News.

How do you see Thailand as a trading hub of South East Asia to hold AAITF expo? Please list out the benefits of organising AAITF in Bangkok?

There are many reasons as to why we made the strategic decision to launch AAITF in Bangkok. Firstly, Thailand is a natural regional logistics hub providing a gateway to a huge market of over 600 million consumers across South East Asia. It is the largest production base in the ASEAN and the nerve centre of the supply chain for the automotive aftermarket.

Another reason as to why we chose to hold the trade exhibition in Bangkok is that the Thai automotive aftermarket sector is positioned for high growth as millions of new vehicles are entering the market. Sales of vehicle accessories, such as in-dash navigation, electronics, and high-performance upgrades, show strong growth among the young driving population.

Could you throw an overall picture about the AAITF Bangkok 2015?

Our aspiration for AAITF Bangkok is to bring something new, exciting and commercially valuable to the Thai and SE Asian aftermarket industry. Respondents to our market survey called for a new type of event; one that is exclusively B2B and which showcases innovative products, brands and technologies from local and world leading suppliers. AAITF Bangkok is our answer.  It is Thailand’s only B2B aftermarket event and has been designed to connect commercial contacts across some of the world’s fastest developing automotive aftermarkets.

The inaugural event will feature over 200 international and local brands, presenting new and innovative products at the forefront of the industry. 5,000+ buyers from Thailand and across SE Asia are expected.

Indicate the profile of core buyers and what are the major benefits they avail by visiting AAITF Bangkok 2015?

The core buyer profile is made up of aftermarket distributors and agents, independent modification shops / garages, e-retailers, car dealerships and service centres and OEM manufacturers.

Visitors can expect to source thousands of the latest innovative auto aftermarket products from over 150+ local and international brands including key brands such as Bosch, Meguiars, Sussex Auto Parts, RUPES S.p.A and inCarBite. Not only this, but all trade buyers have free access to a technical seminar and workshop program featuring talks from Bosch, Murata Electronics and inCarBite. The show will also features exciting and compelling onsite features including a racing feature, modification feature, live product demonstrations, Bosch ESC simulator, a changing colour car, products launches such as DriveBot (FitBit for your car) and many more.

International interest for the show has been demonstrated with buyers having pre-registered from; Africa, America, American Samoa, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, China, England, Germany, Ghana, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Please list out the major countries, from where the expo is expected to attract exhibitors

The show has seen international support with exhibiting countries including Thailand, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Australia, United Kingdom, Italy, Poland, USA (California), China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan.

Can you please name out a few major international and Thailand-based companies that are participating in the trade fair?

Some of the key Thai exhibiting brands include Bosch, Meguiars, Drivebot, SJS Pro Products Co., Ltd. and PP Super Wheels.

Interesting products that are lined up by the exhibitors to showcase/demonstrate during the trade fair?

The three day trade exhibition will be host to a full range of onsite show floor features covering different aspects of the auto aftermarket. Each day there will be an official show floor tour of the show floor features by the show organisers with dedicated live product demonstrations. Trade visitors can register to attend these tours via the AAITF Bangkok website.

Drivebot, described as ‘Fitbit’ for your car, will be featured onsite. This is an Innovative connected car device that monitors your car’s health and alerts you whenever there’s a problem.

Autovox, stand C13, will be presenting KW suspensions and Akrapovic exhaust systems on their show floor feature space, two of the world’s most reputable aftermarket tuning component manufacturers.

InCarBite will be hosting an in car electronics accessories feature where they will be demonstrating new patterned products. Autoglym will be demonstrating their “passion for perfection” on stand D12, showcasing their professional car care brand on a luxury car through live training workshops.

Sussex Autoparts (UK) will be doing a live demonstration of dismantling of gear box on stand F06.

Can you talk a bit on the three day innovation technical seminar and workshop programme that will be conducted at AAITF Bangkok 2015?

Trade visitors at AAITF Bangkok 2015 will have exclusive free access to a three day technical workshop and seminar program, 9-11 December, with practical seminars and workshops from the likes of Bosch, Rupes S.p.A and Sussex Auto Parts. Participants will hear talks on the most innovative topics and trends in the automotive aftermarket and network with the leading companies in the industry. AAITF Bangkok is not only acting as a meeting place for the key aftermarket suppliers, retailers and distributors but also acting as a knowledge sharing hub.

Which are the major industry bodies or associations that are supporting AAITF Bangkok 2015?

Since announcing that AAITF will be taking place in Bangkok, Thailand, the show has received a huge amount of support from local and international associations, a testament to the calibre of the show.

Thai associations that have shown their support and will be bringing members  to the show include; Thailand Exhibition Association (TEA), Thailand Automotive Institute (TAI), Thai-European Business Association (TEBA), Poonsup Market, Sri Vorajak Building, Thai Auto Parts Aftermarket Association (TAPPA), The Union Motors Repairing Association Of Thailand and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB).

Associations from across SE Asia, outside of Thailand, have also shown their support by sending their associations’ presidents, CEOs and other association members to the show, including MAMDA (Myanmar Automobile Manufacture Distributor Association) and AADA (Authorised Automobile Distributors Association (AADA) and Union Motor Repair Association of Malaysia to name a few.

How do you see the aftermarket trade fair like AAITF Bangkok 2015 is important in ASEAN region, which is recording appreciable vehicle sales compared to developed markets in recent years?

AAITF Bangkok provides an excellent B2B platform allowing businesses to make new commercial connections in Thailand and across the ASEAN region that does not yet exist. As a result of the slowing auto market in the ASEAN region, aftermarket sales are booming as consumers prefer to modify and upgrade their automobiles rather than buy new cars.
