Busworld Latin America beats expectations with thumping success

The first edition of Busworld Latin America trade fair emerged as a successful trade fair with participants from 16 countries showcasing their products.

Busworld Latin America expo that was organised between December 5 to 7, 2016 in the Plaza Mayor in Medellin, the second biggest city in Colombia, attracted 61 exhibitors.   It was the best first edition ever in the Busworld history.

In total, 32 vehicles were presented at the expo covering a total surface of 6,600 square meters.

Among others, Daimler, Scania, GM Isuzu, Volvo, Golden Dragon, Busscar, Inconcar, Otokar, Carrocerias JGB, Megabuses,  Dina, Orion, Agrale and NPU have displayed their unique bus and coach products.

While Scania made the world premiere of its first bi-articulated bus powered by a euro VI CNG engine, Isuzu displayed the ERGA CNG bus with low entry.

Another commercial vehicle giant Marcopolo, which did not have a dedicated booth, made its presence through other vehicles in the exhibition, like the eco version of the Gran Viale of Mercedes-Benz.

Megabuses showcased its midibuses Megax and Megax Uno while Inconcar presented its Dreamliner and Carrocerias JGB displayed its Majestic double decker.

Daimler has drawn a lot of attention with a rotating chassis in their booth.

Also notable suppliers like Fasching, Voith, Funtoro, Hanover Displays, Aesys, Songz, J Actia, Dhollandia, anlir, Soltecmo, Transtec, Espumatec Upic, Good luck, Allison Transmission, Faicsa, Jaque, Sunviautoand many more have presented their latest products.

Belgian federal minister of mobility, François Bellot has inaugurated the trade fair and also took the stand during the Busworld Academy Congress.

He was amazed by the high level of intermodality that the City of Medellin achieved with its multi modal system, combining buses, the Metroplus BRT, taxis, trams and even the metrocables.

Busworld Academy has hosted the conference as a parallel event to the Busworld expo. The ‘Future Oriented Bus & Coach Transport in Latin America’ congress addressed different topics such as Bus Rapid Transit and integrated multi modal public transport, zero emission buses, safety in bus and coach and last but not least coach tourism.

Jan Deman, Director of Busworld Academy, said. “We even got requests to repeat the same congress in the neighbouring countries!”, he added. All presentations are available on the Busworld Academy website.

Busworld will organise the next Busworld Latin America  in  2017 and the exact dates will be announced at the earliest while the location will remain the same.
