The US-based Solidworks, a subsidiary and 3D design software brand of France-headquartered Product Lifecycle Management solution provider Dassault Systemes, is witnessing more potential for its solutions in the manufacturing sector, automotive segment in particular.
Dassault Systemes said its newly launched 3D design and engineering solution Solidworks 2018 will help to achieve more business in growing Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector in India.
The French Product Lifecycle Management solution provider has launched Solidworks 2018 for the Indian market today in Bangalore
Addressing a media conference, PM Ravikumar, Senior Director, Dassault Systèmes, Professional Channel SOLIDWORKS India, said, “he Indian manufacturing industry is slowly adopting 4.0 solutions for smart and digital manufacturing to increase productivity and quality. Currently, the automotive sector is primarily adopting this new technology as compared to other sectors in the country.”
Powered by Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform, SOLIDWORKS 2018 supports a business’ complete design through manufacturing strategy with solutions that simplify the interactions between disciplines across the product development workflow. This unified process leverages smart manufacturing — a connected and seamless flow of data that is available to all teams involved in product development whenever, wherever and in whatever format is needed without having to port data from one system to another.
Ravikumar said “SOLIDWORKS 2018 aims to revolutionize the product development and manufacturing process for SME’s and start-ups and enable them to move up on the value chain. With SOLIDWORKS 2018, we plan to cater to key verticals under Make in India initiative- automobile and Components, Aviation, Defence Manufacturing & Electrical Machinery.”
Responding to a question by Automotive India News, Ravi Varadarajan, Director Technical Sales, Dassault Systemes, said, more than 8,000 customers are using Solidworks solutions in India.
Varadarajan said around 20 percent of the global business for Dassault Systemes has been achieved from its subsidiary Solidworks and the Indian business ratio is also almost in the same line.
He referred Internet of Things (IoT, Artificial Intelligence (AI), 5G, Autonomous Vehicles and Smart Manufacturing as emerging technology trends in the coming decade. India will replace China as growth engine as the workforce in India is expected to climb from the current 885 million to 1.08 billion in the next 20 years.
At present, Varadarajan said more than 10,000 startups are functioning in India and the country is adding around 800 new technology startups every year. This trend provides more business opportunity for Solidwoks in India.
Endorsing this, Asteria Aerospace’s Director and Cofounder Neel Mehta, said, “SOLIDWORKS design, simulation, and PDM tools have dramatically increased our effectiveness to design tightly integrated electromechanical parts and assemblies. SOLIDWORKS has a very short learning curve which has significantly reduced our time to market for new product development”.
A key feature of SOLIDWORKS 2018 for this process is SOLIDWORKS CAM, a new application that provides rules-based machining with knowledge capture to allow for the automation of manufacturing programming.
Vinit Giri, Design Engineer, Altigreen Propulsion Labs, during his presentation, narrated about how his company has been using Solidwoks solutions in developing clean energy products.
