Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has created a new record in monthly sales in September 2016 by selling 569,011 units, marking good start in the current festive season.
Honda has surpassed its own monthly sales record created with 4.92 lakh units in August 2016. Honda 2Wheelers India total sales jumped by 32 percent to 569,011 units in September 2016 compared to 430,724 units in September 2015.
Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, HMSI, said, “The positivity in the economy led by 7th Central Pay Commission, One Rank One Pension disbursements and favourable monsoon has translated to a robust return of demand in two-wheeler sector ahead of festivals.
Honda’s festive planning started 6 months back. By leveraging the 12 lakh addition production bandwidth coming from forth facility, Honda is for the first time ever ensuring ready availability of all its models including Activa throughout the festive season. Overall, led by festive buying, Honda is confident of a bumper October sales, he added.
In September 2016, Honda added 138,287 units as compared to its sales in the same period a year ago, which is 100 percent more than its nearest competitor and Honda 2Wheelers alone added 45 percent to the new volumes added in the industry.
Honda also became the only two wheeler company in the country to gain over 3 percent share in total industry (24 percent to 27 perceent) and 2 percent market share in the domestic market (27 percent to 29 percent).
In September’16, Honda’s domestic sales increased year-on-year by 31 percent to 539,662 units from 411,635 units.
Led by Activa, Honda’s automatic scooter sales crossed 3.5 lakh units for first time and touched 355,655 units, recording 35 percent growth over 264,408 units sold in September 2015. Honda’s motorcycle sales surged by 25 percent from 147,227 units in September 2015 to 184,007 units in September 2016.
Honda 2Wheelers has also recorded its highest ever monthly exports of 29,349 units in September 2016.
During April-September 2016, Honda 2Wheelers total sales jumped by 24 percent to 2,809,878 units from 2,272,129 units.
