The Indian industry produced 10,900,264 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers, two wheelers and quadricycle in April-August 2016, up 11.22 percent as compared to 9,800,197 produced in April-August 2015.
According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the domestic market sales of Passenger Vehicles jumped by 10.74 percent year-on-year in April-August 2016. Within the Passenger Vehicles, Passenger Cars, Utility Vehicles and Vans increased by 3.01 percent, 40.74 percent and 6.67 percent respectively during the period.
The overall Commercial Vehicles segment witnessed a growth of 7.97 percent in April-August 2016 as compared to the same period a year ago. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) recorded a growth of 4.41 percent while Light Commercial Vehicles growth jumped by 10.65 percent.
Three Wheelers sales grew by 15.44 percent in April- August 2016 over the same period last year. Passenger and Goods Carrier sales grew by 15.12 percent and 16.98 percent respectively in April-August 2016 over April-August 2015.
Two Wheelers sales registered a growth at 16.51 percent during April-August 2016 over April–August 2015. Within the Two Wheelers segment, Scooters, Motorcycles and Mopeds grew by 26.07 percent, 11.79 percent and 23.14 percent respectively in April-August 2016 over April-August 2015.
In April-August 2016, overall automobile exports tumbled by 11.16 percent. While Passenger Vehicles and Commercial Vehicles exports recorded a growth of 13.47 percent and 8.53 percent respectively, international shipments of Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers slipped by 39.31 percent and 12.67 percent respectively in April-August 2016 over April-August 2015.
