Premium hatchback Swift from India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki’s family clocked sales of 13 lakh units in the past 10 years.
One of the most favourable models of Indian car owners, Maruti Swift, turned ten this month. The Company has lined up month long celebrations to engage with Swift owners and enthusiasts to mark the occasion.
R S Kalsi Executive Director (M&S) said, “Over 1.3 million Swift cars have been bought in India so far, transforming the landscape of the Indian auto industry and inspiring new products, market segments and categories. Over the years, the Swift has evolved in features, looks and technology, often defining the changes in aspiration and preferences of Indian car customers.”
Swift has broken the myth about the so-called “big car features” by offering them to its customers and along the way creating a new upper A2 segment in the industry. Swift has swept Car of the Year Awards in India, twice over, once when it was launched (2005) and again when the full model change was introduced (2011).
In its latest version, Swift Diesel saw a 10 per cent increase in fuel efficiency while Swift Petrol improved by 9.5 per cent, making Swift the most fuel efficient car in its category, the company claimed in its today’s statement.
Within a year of launching the car in 2004, the company rolled out the diesel version in 2005 and carried out minor changes in 2010 and implemented full model change in 2011 and again did minor changes in 2014. It clocked 1-lakh sales mark in 2007 followed by 2-lakh in the following year, 3-lakh in 2009 and 5-lakh in 2010 before touching 10-lakh mark in 2013. As per April 2015 cumulative sales figures, the model crossed 13 lakh units.
