Maruti witness 29.6% sales growth in April 2015


India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India witnessed a growth of 29.6 percent in total sales in April 2015 at 1,11,748 units against 86,196 units sold in the corresponding period last year.

In a press statement issued today, the company said its domestic sales jumped by 27.3 percent during the month to 1,00,709 units against 79,119 units in April 2014. Sales of Alto and WagonR surged by 35.9 percent to 35,403 units compared to 26,043 units in the same month a year ago.

The country’s largest car maker said sales of the compact car segment comprising Swift, Ritz, Celerio and Dzire climbed by 8.7 percent to 42,297 units in April this year from 38,926 units last year.

According to Maruti, its compact sedan Dzire more than doubled its sales to 1,826 units from 741 units in April 2014.

Meanwhile, the sales of mid-sized segment car SX4 and Ciaz dramatically jumped to 4,662 units from a meager 76 units. Sales of utility vehicles, including Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga, declined by 11.2 % to 4,452 units in April this year from 5,011 units last year. Sales of vans, Omni and Eeco touched 12,069 units in April against 8,322 units last year.

The company’s exports surged by 56 percent to 11,039 units compared to 7,077 units in April 2014. Maruti Suzuki remains as the second largest car exporters in India, next only to Hyundai.
