Piaggio Vespa ties with Snapdeal to sell scooters online on the back of raising internet savvy buyers in India.

Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd, a 100 percent Indian subsidiary of the Italian two wheeler major Piaggio Group, signed a deal with Snapdeal, one of the top e-commerce portals, to sell its flagship Vespa scooters.

The Snapdeal’s dedicated online store for Vespa brand will display the entire range of Vespa scooters. Buying a Vespa scooter now is on a click of a button, Piggio Vehicles said in a statement issued today.

The company is targeting internet savvy younger generation to sell its Vespa scooters online through Snapdeal as they can buy the vehicle without physically spending much time.

The two wheeler maker has launched a special offer for the first 100 buyers on Snapdeal and the entire range of Vespa vehicles can be booked with Rs 5000. The Vespa models available on Snapdeal include Vespa, Vespa Elegante, VX and Vespa S.

Piaggio Vehicles Executive Vice President-2W Business, Sanjeev Goyle, said, “We have decided to launch a virtual store as the current generation loves online shopping and prefers products that provide buyer friendly shopping options. “

He said the Snapdeal is the country’s largest online market space and the collaboration with it will facilitate the company to further strengthen its relationship with customers. The online sale initiative is part of the company’s larger part of sales and marketing strategy.

Tony Navin, Snapdeal’s Senior Vice President, Electronics and Home, said the automotive segment on Snapdeal has grown at a significant rate in the past 12 months and the customer will experience unique online shopping experience with the new Vespa brand store.

Italian Piaggioe & C SpA PVPL commenced its Indian operations through Piaggio Vehicles in 1999 by rolling out Apé, which emerged as one of the India’s key three-wheeler brand.

The e-commerce in automobile segment is a new concept compared to its popularity in the developed countries like Unites State of America (USA) and Europe. The concept is expected to pick up in the future as the vehicle manufacturers can attract the young customers with minimum investments. With Piaggio Vespa started selling its scooters online, some more premium brand two wheeler makers are expected to get into online sales.
