Global oil giant Shell Lubricants and Tata Motors have announced the winner of the Tata Global Techfest 2015.

Conceptualized in 2012, Tata Global Techfest is a technical skill assessment programme for technicians attached to Tata Motors.

Through this programme, Shell and Tata Motors gauges the technical competency of the contesting technicians.

This year’s edition of the Tata Global Techfest witnessed the participation of 7500 technicians from across 24 countries including India, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Australia and Indonesia.

Tata Global Techfest has been designed in a six stage model that starts at the workshop level & culminating at the international level.  Ten technicians from India and 15 from abroad made it to the grand finals. The top five winning technicians were felicitated with cash prizes of $ 6500.

Nitin Prasad, Managing Director, Shell Lubricants India, said, “We work closely with our OEM partners for constant skill development. Both Tata Motors and Shell Lubricants strive towards Quality of service. With the Tata Global Techfest, we took up the challenge to employ our expertise in collaboration with Tata Motors to offer training and development while testing the competency of technicians.”

According to Gavin Laidlaw, General Manager for Asia, OEM, Shell, more than 27000 technicians are engaged in providing services across the world and it is crucial that a technician should be trained in all aspects to address the service requirements of vehicles backed with advanced technologies. Tata Techfest helps to motivate the technicians towards this goal.

Sanjeev Garg, VP & Global Head Customer Care-CVBU, Tata Motors said the company’s endeavor is to keep its technicians updated about the advanced technologies in vehicles to increase vehicle uptime and reliability.

Tata Techfest is acting as a platform for mechanics to showcase their skills at global level and the company is pleased to have Shell Lubricants as its partner in this industry first event on such grand scale, Garg added.
