Honda Cars India has reported almost flat sales in May 2015 by selling 13,431 units in the domestic market.
Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Japanese auto major Honda, registered a marginal year-on-year growth of 1 percent at 13,431units in domestic sales in May 2015. The premium car maker sold 13,362 units of cars in May 2014.
In the first two months of April and May in the current financial year 2015-16, Honda Cars India sold 26,067 units of cars, up from 24,402 units sold during the same period in the previous financial year, recording a growth of 7 percent. The company has shipped 655 units of cars to its overseas markets in May 2015.
Both domestic and export markets put together, the company sold 14,086 units of cars.
In May 2015, the company sold 7,562 units of its flagship Honda City followed by 3,699 units of Honda Amaze and 1,249 units of Mobilo. In addition, the company sold 873 units of Brio and 48 units of CR-V.
In sequential basis, the car company’s domestic sales increased to 13,431 in May 2015 from 12,636 units sold in April 2015. The overall sales, both in the domestic and overseas markets, of the company also increased to 14,086 units in May 2015 from 13,489 units in April 2015.
Honda has established its Indian subsidiary in December 1995 and currently the company has two manufacturing plants, one at Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh and another in Tapukara District, Alwar in Rajasthan.
The Japanese car maker has 232 sales and service outlets spread across 152 cities in India. Its Greater Noida plant has an installed capacity to produce 1,20,000 cars per annum while its Tapukara facility, whic is spread across 450 acres has an annual production capacity to roll out 120,000 units of cars. The company has commenced car production at its Tapukara facility from February 2014.
Honda Cars India is committed to invest Rs 380 crore in its Tapukara plant to increase production capacity to 1,80,000 units per annum.
