Royal Enfield drives up May sales by 41% on 350cc demand

Royal Enfield has reported a whopping 41 percent growth in sales in May 2015 at 35,354 units against 25,010 units sold in May 2014 on the back of raising demand for its 350cc motorcycles.

Indian heavy motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield has reported a whopping 41 percent growth in sales in May 2015 at 35,354 units against 25,010 units sold in May 2014.

The company’s robust sales performance was driven by the increasing demand for its 350cc models, which recorded a growth of 40 percent in sales at 31,227 units in May 2015 compared to 22,356 units in the same month a year ago. The sales of motorcycle models in above 350cc category increased by 56 percent to 4,127 units from 2,654 units.

In a statement filed with Bombay Stock Exchange today, its parent company Eicher Motors Ltd said Royal Enfield  has shipped 739 units of motorcycles in May 2015, up from 501 units exported in the same month in the previous financial year.

In the current year 2015 till May, the company sold 1,62,116 units of vehicles, up by 43 percent from 1,13,096 motorcycles sold in the same period a year ago. During the period, its 350cc category motorcycles witnessed sales of 1,42,705 units, up from 99,035 vehicles, recording a year-on-year growth of 44 percent.

The company sold 19, 411 units of motorcycles exceeding 350cc engine capacity during January to May 2015 compared to 14, 061 units sold in the same period a year ago, witnessing a growth of 38 percent. In the same period, the company’s shipments to overseas countries too surged by 50 percent to 3,881 units from 2,589 units.

Royal Enfield, a part of Eicher Motors Ltd, has a product portfolio comprising the modes like the Bullet, Classic and Thunderbird model 350 and 500cc engine categories and Continental GT 535cc café racer. The company has 12 own showrooms along with 395 dealerships across the countries. It has been exporting its motorcycles to more than 50 countries across the world including the USA, United Kingdom, Japan and several European countries and Latin American region.

Recently Royal Enfield has acquired UK based motorcycle parts maker Harris Performance Products Ltd for undisclosed amount.
