Tata Motors clocks 5% sales growth in May 2015

 

Tata Motors witnessed a growth of 47 percent in overseas shipments while its passenger car division sales surged by 32 percent and M&HCV business unit grew by 17 percent in May 2015     

India’s top auto maker Tata Motors reported 5 percent growth in overall vehicle sales in May 2015 at 39,496 vehicles, up from 37,538 vehicles sold in May 2014. The figures included commercial vehicle and passenger vehicle sales in both the domestic and overseas markets.

The company’s sold 34,818 units of vehicles in the Indian market in May 2015.

Its passenger cars (excluding UV’s) business division witnessed a year-on-year growth of 32 percent while its Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle (M&HCV) division recorded a jump of 17 percent and overseas shipments grew by 47 percent in May 2015.

The company’s cumulative sales including exports for the fiscal stood at 75,641 units, up by 6 percent compared to 71,442 vehicles sold in the previous year.

Tata Motors sold 11,138 units of passenger vehicles in May 2015, up from 9,230 uints sold in the same month a year ago.

In a statement, the company said the growth trend was driven by its cars segment, primarily by Zest and Bolt coupled with positive response for its new GenX Nano. The company sold 9,176 units of passenger cars, up from 6,932 units sold in May 2014. The Utility Vehicle sales tumbled by 15 percent year-on-year to 1,962 units in May 2015.

Its domestic market cumulative sales of passenger vehicles for the fiscal touched 21,368 units, up by 28 percent compared to last year.

In the commercial vehicles division, M&HCV sales surged by 17 percent year-on-year to 10,788 units in May 2015. The Light and Small Commercial Vehicle (L&SCV) division sales fell by 19 percent to 12,892 units. The negative growth in L&SCV sales impacted overall CV sales as it declined by 6 percent to 23,680 units in the domestic market.

The auto maker shipped 4,678 units of vehicles in May 2015, up by 47 percent compared to 3,191 units exported in May 2014.
