Etios series has been witnessing steady growth

The sales of Etios series has been surging in the Indian automotive market after the launch of its fine tuned upgraded versions in October 2014.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), the Indian subsidiary of Japanese auto giant Toyota, sold 12,965 units of vehicles in May 2015, down from 13,228 units sales recorded in May 2014.

The company said its Etios series has been receiving constant response in the market. Toyota has launched the new Etios and Liva in October 2014, when it standardized the airbags across all categories of the Etios series including the entry level variants.

The company exported as many as 1,448 units of Etios series in May 2015. The Etios series sales increased by 12 percent in the eight months period from October 2014 to May 2015 when compared to the same period a year ago.

TKM, in which Toyota holds 89 percent stake while the remaining 11 percent held by Kirloskar, has shut production for two days in May 2015, when it achieved domestic market sales of 11,511 units, a marginal decline compared to 11,831 units sales registered in May 2014.

The company is shutting down its manufacturing facility in Bidadi Industrial Estate near Bangalore from May 29 to June 6 for regular maintenance. The related impact on production will be felt in the next month as well.

The All New Camry, which was launched April 30, recorded sales of 107 units in May 2015, up 51 percent compared to the same month in 2014. As many as 251 customers have placed orders since its launch, which is equivalent to 35 percent of the total Camry sales in 2014.

N Raja, Director and Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing in TKM said, “The newly launched Camry has been witnessed good response and its Hybrid version constitutes 91 percent of total Camry sales in May 2015. The Indian Hybrid market though still at a nascent stage is beginning to gain momentum.”

TKM would like to thank the customers for their interest and also the union government for the introduction of incentives under Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicles scheme (FAME India Scheme), he said.

Toyota Camry is the first locally manufactured hybrid vehicle in India to get the recognition from the union government as environment friendly vehicle.  TKM has been passing the benefit of full scheme incentive of Rs 70,000 to the customer.
