VE Commercial Vehicles May sales stands at 4,035 units, driven by the demand for its trucks and buses in the domestic market
VE Commercial vehicles Ltd (VECV), a 50:50 joint venture between Swedish commercial vehicle major Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Ltd, witnessed a growth of 7.6 percent in sales for the month of May 2015 at 4,035 units, up from 3,750 units it sold in May 2014.
Of the total sales of 4,035 units of vehicles in May 2015, the sales of Eicher brand vehicles stood at 3,962 units while Volvo brand accounted for 73 units of vehicles.
In May 2015, the total sales of Eicher branded vehicles increased by 7.5 percent to 3,962 units from 3,685 units of vehicles sold in the same month in the previous financial year.
In the 5-tonne and above Indian commercial vehicle segment, Eicher branded buses and trucks witnessed a sales growth of 18 percent to touch 3,617 units in May 2015, an increase from 3,064 units sold in the same period a year ago.
While VECV witnessing growth in the domestic market, its exports tumbled in the month of May 2015. The overseas shipments of Eicher brand commercial vehicles like trucks and buses have witnessed sales of 345 units in May 2015, a steep fall from 621 units it exported in May 2014.
Volvo trucks recorded a sales growth of 12.3 percent at 73 units in May 2015 as against 65 units sold in the corresponding month in the previous year.
In addition to Eicher branded trucks and buses, VECV joint venture also has other business divisions including VE Powertrain and Eicher’s components and engineering design services. The joint venture also has a responsibility of selling Volvo branded trucks within the country.
Eicher branded trucks and buses have good presence in the light and medium duty commercial vehicle sector in India, primarily in the 5-tonne to 12-tonne segment. The company’s 15 to 65 seater bus models are gaining good growth in the school bus segment. The commercial vehicle maker also has presence in heavy-duty truck sector in the category of upto 40-tonne with its VE series heavy-duty trucks.
